Hospice Support Care
“Death belongs to the dying and those who love them.”
Sherwin Nuland, M.D.
Most Americans today are familiar with the Hospice philosophy of care, focused on providing comfort, relieving pain and supporting the patient with life-limiting health conditions and his family.
We know that death is a consuming process for everyone involved. Family members and loved ones often do not realize how it is affecting them. Some family members feel guilty about taking time away and rarely acknowledge the need to take a break--even for an hour--to eat, sleep, or just talk about other things. If your wish is to spend meaningful time with your dying parent and to say good-bye in a way that is satisfying to both of you, practical caregiving support is invaluable. Going it alone as your parent's caregiver may leave you so exhausted and emotionally drained that such an experience isn't possible.
Accompanying a person in their final months, weeks and days is an honor and a privilege that caregivers at Pin Oak take very seriously. Most have many years experience and training in Hospice Support Care and are experts at making your senior's comfort a priority.
Some of the Hospice support tasks a Pin Oak caregiver can provide:
- Relieve family caregivers
- Provide physical and emotional comfort
- Read or pray with your elder
- Help reduce anxiety and agitation
- Assuage the fear of dying alone
- Empty drainage bags
- Gentle bed baths
- Prepare meals or snacks
- Light housekeeping
- Run errands and go shopping for the family
We understand that the process of dying demands both emotional and practical involvement. We are here to support you so that you may fully cherish the final days with your loved one.
